An internal tool to manage logogram recordal for citizen-facing products and initiatives

Opportunity
What real-world problem are you focused on?
Until recently, OGP did not have a structured way to protect its organisational logo and citizen-facing product identities. This created a real risk that OGP’s names or logos could be misused by others—whether for impersonation, misinformation, or scams—undermining public trust and potentially causing harm to users.
A clear example is the former OGP blog, which is now owned by a third party. Recovering it would require a complex and reactive legal process, highlighting how difficult it is to respond once misuse has already happened. Existing protection options are fragmented and not easy for product teams to navigate or apply consistently.
Who experiences this problem?
Product teams across OGP launching citizen-facing products and initiatives lack a clear and structured way to protect product names and logos.
What makes today’s experience painful or confusing?
The process is manual, inconsistent, and unclear. Teams are unsure what can be protected, how to start the process, and how to track progress. Action is often only taken after harm or misuse has already occurred, making protection reactive rather than preventive.
Why does this matter?
Without proper protection, OGP faces increased reputational risk and reduced public trust. Strengthening logogram safeguards helps protect citizens, preserves confidence in public digital services, and ensures OGP’s products remain credible, trustworthy, and safe to use.
Velocity
We built Markit, an internal tool that simplifies how logogram recordal requests are managed for citizen-facing products and initiatives.
What users can do now
OGP officers can submit requests easily through an online form and track their progress
GT Legal can review submissions, request more information, approve or reject requests, and update their status in one place
OGP admins have a central view of all recorded logograms
Automated email updates keep everyone informed at each stage
Current limitations
No automatic filing with IPOS
No system integration with IPOS
Only supports logograms and not other trademark use cases
This portal replaces a manual, email-based process with a clear, structured workflow. Early use shows that it simplifies coordination and creates a scalable foundation for protecting logograms across future citizen-facing products.
Traction
The portal has been tested internally, with early adoption showing:
Product teams submit requests more confidently, with built-in checks that prevent incomplete submissions
GovTech Legal can manage all requests in a single interface, reducing manual email coordination and improving transparency
Automated notifications keep teams updated on reviews, approvals, and completions
Other than that, I think the tool is easy to understand and use. Thanks!— GovTech Legal Officer
