Opportunity
500-600 local Emerging Arts & Culture Self-Employed Persons (SEPs) struggle to find gig opportunities in fragmented platforms and platform with jobs that are not relevant to arts industries. This makes it difficult for emerging SEPs to sustain and build a career, hence weakening our arts & culture scene.
Velocity
Over the course of Hack for Public Good 2026, the team built a working two-sided marketplace prototype from the ground up.
ARTWORKS is an AI-powered arts exclusive platform that intelligently matches artists with opportunities. The system analyses portfolios and project needs to suggest relevant connections, while providing a space for artists to showcase work and companies to post opportunities.

Core features shipped:
Dual-sided matching interface — separate flows for hirers (finding arts talent) and artists/SEPs (finding gigs or collaborators), both live at artworksdev1.on.spaceship.gov.sg
AI-powered natural language matching — users describe their needs in plain English rather than filtering by tags; the system interprets intent to surface relevant matches
Artist profile system — backend store linking email-based profiles to Name, Phone Number, Skills / Arts Genres, Experience Summary, Portfolio Links, Availability Period
Company profile system — backend store linking email-based profiles to Company Name, Phone Number, Company Profile
Flexible engagement model — hirer search supports both fixed-date and open-ended engagements, reflecting real gig work patterns
Match results screen — match score ranking in descending order with matched profile names, experience, contact information and reason for matching.
Traction
The prototype was not tested with actual users yet, however, feedback was solicited from 4 users during the hackathon period, including arts SEPs and NAC domain experts.
4 artists created profiles and tested the matching flow
2 gig opportunities were posted by testers during testing
15 matches were surfaced by the AI across test sessions
Early feedback from testers:
"To provide listing on the Gig opportunities instead of relying on natural language prompting"
Even at prototype stage, the AI matching approach showed qualitative signals — e.g. stronger relevance for arts industry than keyword search on existing job search platforms and reduced time to shortlist candidates from hours to minutes.
